This apple cinnamon strudel is a delicious, flaky pastry filled with spiced apples and topped with a golden crust. Perfect for dessert or a cozy breakfast treat!
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a thin rectangle.
Place the apple mixture in the center of the puff pastry, leaving about 2 inches of space along the edges.
Optional: Sprinkle raisins and chopped walnuts over the apple mixture.
Fold the long sides of the pastry over the filling, overlapping slightly. Pinch the edges to seal, and tuck the ends under.
Transfer the assembled strudel to the prepared baking sheet.
Brush the top of the strudel with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
Make small diagonal cuts on the top of the pastry for ventilation.
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes or until golden and crisp.
Let the strudel cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar for added sweetness.
